After visiting Big John&#8217;s koi pond and getting the low down it seems if we want water that we can see into in any shape or fashion then we need a biological filter of some sort. Big John tells me that he just has a Grundfos style central heating pump on his system (after a series of brushes and physical filters) in line with an ultra violet clarifier to zap any algae as it passes through.<\/p>\n<p>I must say, I prefer the idea of having a pump that&#8217;s out of the water rather than a submerged pump.
